The scheme was launched on the 70th birthday of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Under this scheme, women are being given 50% subsidy of the cost of the scooter or financial assistance up to Rs.25 thousand for the purchase of a scooter. Women can apply for this subsidy after buying a scooter. This scheme is called ‘Amma Eru Sakkara Vahanam Tittam’ (Tamil) in Tamil Nadu.

- The age of the woman should be between 18 to 45 years.
- The woman should be a permanent citizen of Tamil Nadu.
- Women should have some option of employment. That is, the woman should be a working woman.

- The annual income of the woman should not exceed 2.5 lakhs.
- The woman must have attempted at least 8th board. (doesn’t matter if it’s near or spread)
